"scripts" for creating time tables ?

Hi!
Anyone here with some javacode or similar that creates a timedimension table based on existing data ?
e.g. I have a whole bunch of records with a timestamp and I would like to have generated a corresponding time table with Q1, day/night, etc. facts in it ....

In Postgres, I do this with a trigger on the table, which fills in the values using SQL date functions.
