mondrian.properties?

Hi,
What is the mondrian.properties for?
When I clicked "JPivot pivot table" from Mondrian web examples.
Mondrian server read the file.
But "JPivot pivot table" doesn't use this file. It setup these properties in mondrian.jsp.
So what is the file for and where to use it?

Core Mondrian uses the file for datasource, query and configuration parameter settings.
JPivot does use mondrian.properties as well, but allows you to override the query and datasource parameters from the JSP level. See MondrianModel and MondrainModelFactory.
