question on configuring pentaho....

my client is currently looking to migrate from a commerical etl tool to pentaho..
we just downloaded the free community version of pentaho....
please provide me the steps, to configure pentaho, before we could actually start creating jobs and transformations..because i was coming across various steps, like mondrian, xml files, etc etc on pentaho usage.........

Erm, none, as long as you have Kettle and Java installed and a data source you're good to go.

Displaying the data to the end user on the otherhand would be a whole different matter, but if thats the case then you're not doing ETL.
