question on text file output

in text file output step, is it possible to view file content, like the option we have in text file input step..
i dont see the "show file content" option in text file output........
i was looking at some sample transforms, and it says
${java.io.tmpdir}/abc
where to get the value for ${java.io.tmpdir}?

did you mean- move over the step?
i tried it ,but when i pressed CTRL space, its open a box called
step fields and their origin..

and i dont see anything about variables in it...........
