Use of business views in metadata editor

Hi all
Can any one provide details on the uses of the business views that we are creating in the pentaho metadata editor?
Also i wanted to know the difference between connecting report designer to metadata business views and cubes.
Are the views stored as the xmi files? So isn't the repository a database? Is there any provision to create database repository?

Hi,

Business views are presented to the business user in Pentaho Adhoc Reporting for column selection. Cubes are used with OLAP, Views are used with Pentaho Metadata. Views are serialized in XMI files along with all the other metadata, and should be placed in the root of your BI Platform solution folder as metadata.xmi. These are loaded in an in-memory CWM repository and are used to generate the SQL that eventually populates reports.
