HTML in the preview pane
Will JFreeReport render a long string (more than 1 page long) of HTML in the preview pane?
Thanks!

Not with JFreeReport 0.8.x. JFreeReport 0.8 uses absolutly positioned elements, which are not compatible with HTML in any way.
However, JFreeReport 0.9 will be able to handle that - at the end of the month, we will be able to celebrate the first release of that next generation engine.

jfreereport 0.9
How is the 0.9 release coming? Do you have a definite release date for the first release? (I'm on a tight time frame for my own release).
Thanks,
Paul

Hi,
the initial real/official release will be at the end of this week.
This version will have all the announced reporting layer capabilities (subreporting, multiple-datasources, excel-style formulas etc.) and on the layouting level, it will come with the basic set (no absolute or positioned elements, no floats) of CSS-layouting capabilities and is able to generate HTML, PDF and (of course) to print (including a print preview). The missing other exports (Plaintext, Excel, RTF, OpenOffice-Writer and Calc) follow next year.
The roadmap for the JFreeReport 0.9
The whole month of December is reserved for the JFreeReport 0.8 branch. In about two, and no more than three weeks, we will have JFreeReport 0.8.8 out in the wild.
The Roadmap for JFreeReport 0.8
Along with the release of JFreeReport 0.9.0, we will start with an Wiki. This wiki will start with some architectural and end-user documentation, the currently known roadmap ('currently known' as roadmaps tend to change a lot) and the wishlist (everything not yet on the roadmap). The roadmap will be for JFreeReport 0.9 only, as the JFreeReport 0.8 branch will not receive any new features after JFreeReport 0.8.8 is finished. (But we will continue to produce bugfixes for it for at least one year.)
Regards,
Thomas
