Thumbs up 2.4.1 : first milestone release ready

Dear Kettle developer, tester, partner & enthousiast!

We've put Pentaho Data Integration version 2.4.1-M1 up for grabs over here: http://www.javaforge.com/displayDocu...p?doc_id=27609

This first milestone release includes many changes among which:
    • a long list of bug-fixes (around 50, keep those bugs coming!)
    • VFS support (http://www.ibridge.be/?p=33)
    • Advanced error handling for JS, Table Output and Update steps (http://www.ibridge.be/?p=32)
    • Buttons added to the database explorer
    • Limit size of logs in Spoon to max 5000 lines (configurable default)
    • Job entries: "Create File", "Delete File" and "Wait for file", all by Sven
    • Job entry: "SFT Put" (put file on remote FTP server), by Joerg Kurzend
    • Job entry: "BulkLoad into MySQL", by Samatar Hassan
    • Step: WSDL lookup: first core implementation
    • Lots of i18n fixes and documentation updates and contributions in several languages.
The mirroring partitioning method that was also planned for M1 was delayed for M2.

For M2 we have an estimated time of arrival of March 5th and this is scheduled to contain among other things:
    • Remote Job Execution
    • Improve Filing of Bug Reports
    • WSDL Plugin: cleanup, improvements (read: make it useable)
    • PALO code integration (Depending on Tripple-A-Strategies support)
    • Mirroring Partitioning Method
    • Scheduler Integration
Beyond that, we'll probably extend upon the error handling features we implemented in M1 in M2.

Note: We are planning an RC1 on March 19 and a GA release on April 1st. So far everything looks like we're going to make those dates as well.

    All the best,

    Matt

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Just for clarity: this is not a production or GA release, this is a milestone release. You should not use this software in a production

    Default Palo M2

    Hallo Matt,

i am a Palo-user and i am very interested in the development of the PALO code integration. Therefore i want to ask, if there are any news about this integration (i know taht the development is forced by 3a strategy).

    Many thanks in advanced,
    best regards

    Hi Huckly,
as you know Palo plugin is until today available only on Kettle 2.3.1
    (see http://www.3a-strategy.com/public_files/kettle/).
I have contacted 3A and they explain me that soon they will deliver version for PDI 2.40 and coming 2.50.

    Take care

    Samatar

Hi Matt, do I understand it right, that the new version of Kettle, released on 1.st of april will fully support Palo and that I can use it in a productive system. Right now I considered to use the stuff of 3A but I do not trust this .

    Hi Markus,

We don't support Palo as of yet and I can understand your sentiment.
We "respectfully but urgently" asked them to find an alternative to the forked 2.3.1. Kettle version they have on their website.
Not just because that fork is in violation of the LGPL license, but because it is not maintained and contains many (many!) bugs.

However, it's pointless to make more out of it than it is. The status is that we are working with them to port the changes to the latest release.
However, I'm totally depending on 3A-Strategies to do the work as I obviously don't have access to their code changes.

I'm sure we'll see the code and a plugin appear in either 2.5.1 or a next release, but it's unlikely that it's going to be part of 2.5.0 (ETA in April)

    All the best,

    Matt
