    Default Install Pentaho on Ubuntu with Tomcat 5.5

    Hi,

    I've success installed pentaho_j2ee_deployments-1.6.0.GA.863-a.zip on windows. But it fail when I try to install on Ubuntu using tomcat 5.5.

    I've make a war file from that file then put war file into tomcat webapps. Before create war file I edit path solution on web.xml

    Add JNDI script into server.xml as told at http://wiki.pentaho.org/display/PentahoDoc/Tomcat+5.5

    Restart tomcat server.

    But when I go into tomcat manager it said that pentaho false and can't start. When I click start it said
    FAIL - Application at context path /pentaho could not be started

    I also try to try edit Context path on server.xml

    <Context path="/pentaho" docbase="/var/libs/tomcat5.5/webapps/pentaho/">
    but still can't start pentaho

    Can somebody help me? Thanks

    Have you installed a JDBC driver for your database system? They go to common/lib. Also make sure you've uploaded the data into the database system..

    How to install JDBC driver? I just put hsqldb.jar and mysql-connector-java-3.1.14-bin.jar into common/libs tomcat. I also have insert SampleDataDump_MySql.sql into my database.

    I also try to deploy on windows again. For first time it running false on tomcat manager, but after I edit path solution on web.xml it works again. Unfortunatelly it is still fail when I try with linux

    yup you got the driver installation right.. question: are there more definitions between the <context></context> lines in your conf/server.xml? Basically you need to point to the databases needed by pentaho...

    And here context param for web.xml on pentaho/WEB-INF

    PHP Code:
     <context-param>
        <
    param-name>solution-path</param-name>
        <
    param-value>/var/www/pentaho/pentaho-solutions/</param-value>
    </

    Should I change folder permission on pentaho-solutions?

    Review your context lines dude.. Which db do you really want to use? Hypersonic or MySQL? Also make sure the correct user (such as 'pentaho_user') is granted privileges on the databases. If you want to use hybridized configuration make sure both server are running.

    Adjusting folder/directory permission never had effects during my exploratory tests.. Not sure about them at all..
