Question Opening published report in Pentaho User Console from other network computer failed

    Hi *,
I am startnig my work with Pentaho BI and Pentaho Report Designer.
    (on WinXP platform)
    1. I made some small report in Pentaho Report Designer ... OK
    2. I publish this report to Pentaho BI server ... OK
    3. I can view this report, just after publish in web browser ... OK
    4. BUT if I log to Pentaho User Console and I try open published report (from other computer as that, where biserver is running), this does not work
(browser is opening http://localhost/ ... instead of http://server_name/)

    I find solution in changing "base-url" in tomcat/webapps/pentaho/web-inf/web.xml ...
there is by default "localhost", when I change it to my server_name, all works.
Can somebody confirm, that it is right solution ?

It will be VERY useful if this will be somewhere (for example in Getting started pdf) documented
or BETTER if some kind of auto-config may be done (without need of modifying web.xml).

    TIA
    -Laco.

Then I would suggest document it somewhere in "Getting started" :

    1. If you want "publish", you must set password in pentaho-solutions/system/publisher_config.xml

    2. If you want access published report from web browser you must set "base-url" in tomcat/webapps/pentaho/web-inf/web.xml

These 2 things stoped me, when I as beginer started working with Pentaho ...

Should I post FR in bug tracker ?

surely they must be documented in about a million different places

May be, that this is already documented on milion places ... but I share with you my personal experience (may be similar to other users).

I think, that most of people start their work with Pentaho by same way as I have started: downloading biserver-ce and reading getting_started (located at same place as biserver-ce)

There is in getting_started chapter "Publishing your report" and there is written:
    7. In the Publish Password text field, type the publish password, password, and click OK.
But there is nothing about publisher_config.xml
... so if i follow instructions in getting_started i can not publish ...

Only one sentence will very help (taken from http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/Repo...shing+a+Report) :
"If you are publishing against the open source server must enter the server's publish password only, which is located in publisher_config.xml in pentaho-solutions/system."

All this is about "making live easier" for novice users.

I would say: If the getting started document omits a crucial piece of information that would get you started, then that is a clear bug.

Please file it in the JIRA system and just include a link to this discussion.

Just because it is documented in a million places, does not mean that it might not be documented in the one place everyone is looking for it first.
Why not listen to the Tales from the reporting crypt.

meh, thats what these wintery mornings does to my good cheer. It is a fair point, my humblest apologies.
