View Full Version : Report Management System

The reporting and framework look great. The part that is missing for me, or maybe I just don't see it, is a Report Management System (RMS)

Something in vein of a Document Managements (DMS) or Content Management System (CMS). Where the user authentication takes place and the author, view roles are handled, etc. The user would see the reports available for their account in a user-friendly screen(s). The workflow would generate the report output for viewing, or the user can have the ability to interactively (parameter input,etc) run a report.

Has this already been done? or is it even planned?
Alternately, could you leverage a DMS or CMS and what would be the issues?

Thanks for any feedback,

These are great questions.

Our current aim is to provide integration with JSR-170 compliant CMS systems such as:

*Alfresco (http://www.alfresco.com/)
* Magnolia (http://www.magnolia.info/en/magnolia.html)
* Apache JackRabbit[\\url]
* [url=http://www.exoplatform.com]eXo (http://incubator.apache.org/projects/jackrabbit.html)

This approach:
* Lets our community choose the CMS system that fits their needs.
* Allows Pentaho to deliver the functionality that is needed
* Lets Pentaho focus on BI functionality.

We welcome feedback about this approach.

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. I have been investigating and am now implementing using the CMS system that is part of jboss-portal 2.2.1RC2. This allows for setting up different pages for different roles, and assigning which roles can see which pages. By the way, the JBoss-Portal uses the Apache.jackrabbit CMS system.
