I'm a big fan of VMWare, and their whole "Virtual Appliance" concept.

For reference: http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/

Does anybody know if there is a Pentaho BI Virtual Appliance?

If there is not, I believe it would be a huge boon to the use of Pentaho by folks who want to see the product do it's thing without having to spend a ton of time just trying to get it running.

I have Pentaho running on a Debian virtual machine. The down side is the size these VM can have - mine is around 1Gb (size wasn't my priority).

I'll eventually tune it up so it can be easily deployed. If there's interest, I can make it available. Or you can try and make it yourself... the tools are free and easy to use!

Hi,

I'm considering making my VMWare virtual machine available to the community. I think it may simplify some first impact installation.

I'm hesitating, though, cause of legal issues concerning the licenses. I think there won't be any concern with Pentaho but Sun's java platform might be an issue.

Can anyone make it clear for me if it is legal to redistribute a virtual machine with Sun's JDK installed?

Thanks in advance,
Bruno

I would love to get a VMWare version of Pentaho. Hopefully your issue with Java has been resolved (Now that Java is being open Sourced).

Are you planning on distriubuting this ??? ..

Is it out there ???

I've downloaded it and am not able to get it working.
Has anyone had any success with this implementation.

I have also downloaded the Jboss stand alone instance and it seems to work. Yet I'm not a good mysql person so I figured; Hay a ready to go instance ... Yet no joy.

Here it is:
Pentaho VMWare appliance (http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/62839)

Or you can find it (+ a version for VirtualBox) directly at
