I seem to have things ALMOST working.. with mySql.. but every time a request hits it.. it shoots up to 100% and stays there. The dbms test also hang at the end, but report finished: ok when I kill mysqld. OF the webapps, I have all working except the Jpivot example. I have narrowed it down to the wcf taglib... the jsp page crashes with "mondrian/olap/SchemaReader" error when I try to use it. What db runs best here? (I'm on winXP 2.2Ghz, 1GB RAM.. so I don't think its my PC.. )

Running Mondrian on the Foodmart database on MySQL was very slow. I don't know if this is inherent to that database or it performance can be improved (e.g. by adding indices). My advice to you if you plan to do some serious work on decent size data set is to use another database (I am sure Oracle, DB2 or SQL Server will all be fine).

Yes, we had the same problem with Mysql. We found, that the table time_by_day is missing a primary key/index.
Adding
CREATE TABLE time_by_day (
time_id int(11) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
...
CREATE UNIQUE INDEX i_time_by_day_id ON time_by_day ( time_id );
yielded a much better performance.
