View Full Version : Count Distinct help please

How do I get a measure to count a distinct number of customers if I have a customer dimension and a customer fact table? the schema/cube is based on this fact table, but when the number of customers shows up..it is exponentially counting.
I noticed this is also happening in the HR Foodmart.xml example. With Number of employees. This could be a real show stopper with us, if Mondrian does not allow this. Any info. given will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks in advance. -T

We don't support a count-distinct aggregator right now, and I don't think there's a workaround. Other people have asked for this too, so please log an RFE and I'll try to get to it soon.

Change 643 fixes this.
There is one case which does not work: rolling up a distinct count over a parent-child hierarchy. This is problematic because distinct count has to be evaluated in SQL (because it doesn't roll up), whereas parent-child hierarchies cannot be rolled up in SQL (because SQL cannot compute a transitive closure).

You can get change 643 (along with the rest of the source code) from our Perforce source-control server. Instructions are in the install guide.
Alternatively, wait for the release: there will be one within a week.

I know I promised a release in July, and I'm running a few days late. I've just posted a release candidate (mondrian-1.0-rc1.zip, under 'mondrian experimental').
If there are no issues with this, the release will be in a day or two.
