Spoon 2.2.2-dev (http://forums.pentaho.org/archived_att/kettle/Development packages/spoon.jnlp?doc_id=5686) At first glance it appears as if Web Starting the Kettle design GUIs should be possible. Before I head off into an abyss of certificiates and JNLP descriptors I wanted to see if anyone else had considered and/or done this?

If I get it to work I'm happy to contribute/post the results. :)

OK Nick,

Here is the unofficial Kettle Java Webstart Guide ;-)

- Check out the source-code or download it
- Edit Spoon.jnlp & chef.jnlp in the web directory
1) modify the codebase URL to a webserver to your liking.
2) If you want to deploy on for example Tomcat use http://127.0.0.1:8080/kettle
3) make sure all libs are included in the resources section (sorry, haven't updated this lately)

- do an "ant webstart": this will generate a kettle.war in webstart, with signing and everything.
- Deploy the kettle.war or unzip the kettle.war on your webserver at the address you specified.

That should do it.

Cheers,

Matt

Huh... That's what I get for not digging a little deeper before posting... :) I took a quick look at the downloaded version but not the source repository.

Thanks for your response Matt. I'll have a go at it soon enough.

Spoon 2.2.2-dev (http://forums.pentaho.org/archived_att/kettle/Development packages/spoon.jnlp?doc_id=5686) Nick & all,

I added 2 JNLP files to webstart Kettle to the Development packages (http://www.javaforge.com/proj/doc.do?doc_id=3701) directory in the Documents section.

It's downloading from http://www.kettle.be, couldn't get it work on Javaforge.

* Chef 2.2.2-dev (http://www.javaforge.com/displayDocument/Development%20packages/chef.jnlp?doc_id=5687)

Enjoy,

Matt

I was able to start the application from the JNLP you provided below.

I have not kicked the tires in terms of local file acces, remote database access, etc. Thanks for all your help, and I'll let everyone know what issues I find (if any) with the webstart version.
