Attachment: error.xls (http://forums.pentaho.org/archived_att/kettle/error.xls) Hi matt,

I've got an Excel file with a column "customer_id". The data is as follows :

customer_id
93235113
93235114
93235117
93235118
M0016643
M0018327
M0021322
M0021324
M0021327

When I use the "Excel Input", it wrongly identifies the column datatype as "NUMBER". I change this to "STRING" and click the preview button and what I see is this :

customer_id
9.3235113E7
9.3235114E7
9.3235117E7
9.3235118E7
M0016643
M0018327
M0021322
M0021324
M0021327

The first 4 values are corrupted! If I set the datatype as "NUMBER" then the rest of the data is treated as 0. Either ways I cannot use the excel input.
Any suggestions?

Also I would like to request an enhancement. Can we have an option to add Sheet #n (irrespective of sheet name). This is useful as most excel sheets may name the sheets differently although the data structures are the same. By making explict selection of the sheet name you are preventing the transformation to be automated.

Regards
Biju.
