If you compare the sample reports between the two version, you will note the following

Using Sample:

http://localhost:8080/pentaho/ViewAction?&solution=samples&path=reporting&action=JFree_ChartComponent.xaction

The JFree_ChartComponent.xaction and xmls between the two versions are identical.

Note the following after launching the action sequence:

Version 1.6

1. Chart Size appears to be off and extends beyond the right margin defined by the page

2. the message field in the "DepartmentGroup" groupheader word spacing is way off - this issue appear throughout the document.

3. Line wieghts and colors are dramatically different

Its a shame because the prior version seemed good enough to generate commercial-grade reports, the new report engine does not seem close to meeting this mark.

The ChartComponent is not part of the reporting engine. It is a separate entity that is executed *before* and *outside* of the reporting engine. All the engine sees is an image, which is handled as image. If you use the ChartComponent, you wont get vector-image versions of the charts in printed and PDF reports, so that thing should (if at all) only be used in conjunction with HTML reports.

2. the message field in the "DepartmentGroup" groupheader word spacing is way off - this issue appear throughout the document.

Yes, the PDF export has its flaws right now, but (just in case you haven't noticed): We are still in the active development of the reporting engine and adding new code or changing old code introduces bugs. That's why we have a Release-Candidate phase to identify and fix them. If you don't want to see bugs at all, do not download release candidates or alpha versions - wait until the GA release is finished. If you live on the edge of development, then yes, you see and will continue to see how bugs get introduced, identified and fixed. Thats life!

3. Line wieghts and colors are dramatically different

We did not change the colors of the report. Maybe you talk about the chart-component again?

Update: The PDF export bug that was causing the lost spacing between the text in the header has been identified, located and exterminated. The next release will contain the fix. The header fonts were rendered incorrectly, causing them to show only the font-outlines if the font size was large. Also fixed.

My last comment on "its a shame" was meant to indicate that these issues are very important to us Commercial user and thus, should be treated as "Severe" in the JIRA stack.

Thanks for the update.

Taqua:

The lines in the sample report I tested are rendered by JFreeReport, not ChartComponent.

e.g., If you look at the report:JFree_ChartComponent.xml, line 27:

<line color="black" weight=".5" width="14%" x1="56%" x2="70%" y1="16" y2="16"/>

Please compare the line wieght rendered between the two versions.
