Just about all other decisions depend on having a good idea whether there will be 10 people or 100 people attending. Respond to the forum is you are sure you can be there and let us know if you can volunteer to help, or want to do something like - a demo or discussion or puppet show etc.

We have a registration page set up now. Please regester at:
http://pentaho2008mainz.eventbrite.com/

By the way - I'll be there

Hi,

great idea, I plan to come.

Regarding the event organization, XING.com has quite some event features including RSVP etc. It is possible for non members to view the event but I think you need to be a member to RSVP.

Ingo

I think it's hard to be able to say whether or not one can attend without a more concrete agenda.

Chicken and egg really though; The agenda comes knowing with the number of people!

Update: I'm in; Subject to the agenda being of suitable content to our business. If a draft agenda could be got together asap then that would help a lot.

Hi Jens,

I would like to know why on earth Jens thought Friday the 13th is a good idea for a meet?

Taqua
05-19-2008, 04:46 AM
Because its a lucky day.

All the unlucky souls will have horrible accidents on that day, so by rule of elimination (quite literally) the remaining people must be lucky :)

Hi there,

Unfortunately I've just found out that I will not be able to join the great event. It is one of those cases when business has to be on top of priorities :(.

Deep inside, there is still a hope for a last-minute change that would allow my presence there - always, hope dies at last.

Have fun in Mainz,
Dragos

Hi everybody,

If my car will not be ridden by the distance :), I will join the event together with another 2 mates interested in Pentaho and German beer :).

And end up with a plane crashing on me ? no way. Come to think of it, I'd rather take a zepelin.

Well as long as you don't moor up you'll be alright. Those pylons can be hazardous!

I asked for special rates in the near by hotels:

The closest hotels to the event: Novotel (near to the event and central), Hilton Mainz City (there are two Hiltons in Mainz, this is near to the event and central, the other one is direct on the Rhine river)

--> for these hotels we get special rates with the booking code "pentaho" for a limited number of rooms to be booked until June, 6th (please call the hotel reservation line directly).

CU,
Jens

Just decided for this location: Some of us are already in town at Thursday evening:

Who wants to join us on Thursday evening at 7pm for dinner/beer/wine... we will meet at Proviant-Magazin, Schillerstraße 11 a, 55116 Mainz

does anyone know which station in rail mainz it is? I'm planning to get the train from frankfurt airport...

Thanks,

lucboudreau
06-11-2008, 10:41 AM
There's only one train station (I think) in Mainz. It's the Mainz Hauptbahnhof. See here :

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=9366288044545738023,50.001388,8.258672&saddr=&daddr=&mra=pr&ie=UTF8&ll=50.001233,8.258538&spn=0.001879,0.004871&t=h&z=18

I'll take the train too from Frankfurt airport and if you surf arround in the Deutch Bahn (bahn.de) website, you can simulate a reservation from the airport to Mainz. It should cost arround 20 euros and last 18 minutes.

BTW. I was told that booking a round trip in advance could mean a 50% discount on the return ticket. The downside is that I was also told that return trips are at fixed hours and you can't take another train, so you'll have to pay another ticket if u miss it. Maybe someone could correct me on this... never been to germany before.

codek
06-11-2008, 10:53 AM
ok thats great, i think i'll just buy a single ticket when i get there - can never rely on flight times!

Looking forward to this event, the list of people giving presentations is huge, and they all look extremely interesting!

jbleuel
06-11-2008, 12:12 PM
Indeed, coming from Mainz some trains also stop at Mainz-Bischofsheim, Mainz-Römisches Theater etc.

--> BUT: leave at Hauptbahnhof (Main Station)

For saving money: Take a local train and not the IC or ICE, but takes a bit longer, 10 minutes I guess....

Just fixed the meeting location for Thursday evening:
Who wants to join us before the event on Thursday evening for dinner/beer/wine... we will meet at 7pm at Proviant-Magazin, Schillerstraße 11 a, 55116 Mainz. There we have enough room to sit in or out depending on the weather. It is very central and in walking distance of the hotels.

Look forward to our event,
Jens
