Hi All:

I want some advice on Data Mining classifier.
I am at the beginning of learning data mining and weka. Hope you don't mind my very basic questions.

I have a data set, the columns are Suburb, Income, Occupation and Profit, and I would like to build a model to see how the Suburb, Income and Occupation would affect the Profit amount(numeric). When I tried some classfiers, I could not proceed as they required nominal class not numeric.

Any idea which classifier is the best suited?
Where can I read more about it from the book

Data Mining

Practical Machine Learning Tools and Techniques,
Second Edition

Ian H. Witten

and

Eibe Frank
?

Thank you very much

Wen

Hi Wen,

Have a go with linear regression (weka.classifiers.functions.LinearRegression) and M5Prime model trees (decision trees with linear regression functions at the leaves - weka.classifiers.trees.M5P). Both these methods are covered in Frank and Witten.

Cheers,
Mark.
