Hi all,
I would like to share with you an error that occurs when I first create an adhoc report after launching Tomcat:

AdhocWebService.ERROR_0012 - Failed to generate the report preview. Please check the server log for details of the error.with "ActionDefinition for MQLRelationalDataComponent did not execute successfully" in the command window of tomcat.

It appears that after I launch a non-adhoc report on the same datasource based on an xaction file, the reports work perfectly fine.
Problem solved, but I don't find it very clean and would like to know where this error might come from and how to get round this issue.

Any suggestion welcome.

did you have a look at the server log as suggested?
can you post the stacktrace of the error?

It appears pentaho cannot connect to my database directly from adhoc report but i need to launch a basic report first.

Here is the log I get:

2009-05-13 14:19:39,999 ERROR [org.pentaho.platform.plugin.action.pentahometadata.MQLRelationalDataComponent] Error Start: Pentaho Pentaho Platform Engine Core 3.0.0.RC2.37176

java.lang.NullPointerException

What's puzzling is that my connection with metadata editor went perfectly well as I built my xmi file with no issue...

Ok I changed the connection type in metadata editor to a JNDI connection and not native and it seems to have resolved my issue.
Thank you!

Greetings,

I tried as suggested but still got no result for first ad hoc report after following the wiki walkthrough and Diethard suggestions (http://diethardsteiner.blogspot.com/2009/07/pentaho-metadata-editor.html).

My problem is the same as reported by mad1son, ERROR_0012.

I tried for both jdbc and jndi data sources.

Any clues?

Thanks in advance,

Renato
