Following from a previous post on what might be a bug under Ubuntu has raised a concern about a mental model I am using.


Linux operating system gives you 64 bit computing
Therefore you can allocate Java as much memory as you can install on your machine
Most Windows machines are 32 bit and are so limited to say 2 gig memory
Therefore you can build bigger models under Linux that Win 32 bit?

Right?

Since Ubuntu is free (and boots much faster), why not?

I'm not too sure what the question is here :-) Indeed you can allocate more memory when you have a 64 bit machine (and 64 bit VM). This is true of Linux, Mac OSX and Windows.
