Question GeoKettle won't run on my Windows machines

I just downloaded the GeoKettle 2.5 for Windows.

I installed it on two different machines that both have JRE 7.

When I try to run the shortcut that was created on the desktop, nothing happens.

When I run the Spoon.bat, nothing happens.

Both machines are Windows 7 Professional.

    Any idea what's wrong?

Try to do a search into this forum, many people had this kind of problem!

    There are different suggestions/solutions.

    Win Version? 32 or 64?
Java version? 32 or 64 or both?

Both machines are Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Both machines currently have JRE 7 32 bit.

And the solution was simple. Thanks for your help.

I needed JRE 7 64 bit installed for this to work.

Can't wait to try this out!

I've been searching for information on this as well and am not having much luck.

I suspect that the problem is java, but I'm not sure how I can overcome it.

I'm running Windows XP and Java version 1.6. I am in a veery security conscious environment and I suspect that my inability to run Geokettle stems from something in the script that writes to my c drive.

If I can pinpoint the problem, I'm sure that my IT people will allow me the changes necessary, but they are not going to do the research for me. Can someone help, please?

added 2 hrs later: I have been given permissions to write to the c:\program files\geokettle directory so can change the spoon.bat file as per some of the suggestions in the FAQ and elsewhere. But still no joy in getting the program going.

AND, added another two hours later:
I removed the comment out on the file path for Java and inserted the location of Java on my machine. It has worked. I hope that will help someone else one day and they don't waste half of their day as I did!
