Thread: Does Modified Java Script Value support all of JavaScript?

Default Does Modified Java Script Value support all of JavaScript?

I am relatively new to JavaScript but trying to use it to do a few things and cannot figure out if I am doing something wrong or trying to do something Spoon will not support. My specific case is trying to use the JavaScript prompt() method but I am also interested in the general answer to whether this step should be able to run JavaScript in general or only a selected subset of it.

I suppose related, is there a more detailed discussion of this step somewhere than http://wiki.pentaho.com/display/EAI/...a+Script+Value?

    Thanks.

You make a big mistake when you focus on scripting while looking at Kettle.

With that out of the way: JavaScript in Kettle is meant for Server-Side-Scripting.
Rhino is the name of the embedded JS engine written in Java.
The MJSV step isn't there to run your everyday JS code.
It allows you to prototype your own steps.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Thanks. In general, I don't do a lot of scripting in Kettle. I agree that it's not the right way to go for most things. I have a few transformations that do some interactive things and I was just trying to pop up a box prompting me for an input parameter. I can keep using real parameters. This would have been slightly more convenient at run time but not a big deal.
