Default Beginner Question: Adding a string constant to a field

    Hi Everyone,

Here's what I am trying to accomplish in Kettle 4.4 CE (I'm going from DATABASE --> TEXT FILE), hopefully someone can help:

This is the pipe-delimited text file output I have right now:
    PDT:2014-04-01/06:27:07.393|ABCD|XX|5833123456|CrProp|1.21|currency:CAD

This is the text file output I want:
    PDT:2014-04-01/06:27:07.393|ABCD|XX|5833123456|CrProp|amount:1.21|currency:CAD

I used the 'String operations' transformation step to add "currency:" but it gave me an error when I tried to add "amount" to the left of the number/dollar value. I'm sure there's a way around this, can anyone suggest what step I should use? Hopefully no coding is necessary. Thanks very much.

    David.

Sometimes you can't just concatenate a String and a Number.
Sure, you could convert the Number to a String field using the Meta-data tab of a Select Values step, but I would use a Java Expression:

So long, and thanks for all the fish.
