Thread: Spoon can not start

    Default Spoon can not start

    Hello,

Spoon stopped be able to start on my PC.

    Click on Spoon.bat
    ....
The start window is shown for a 1-2 sec (version 5.0.1). and then disappears. Nothing happen after that. No error messages..

I replaced the dir "data-integration" completely from the zip archive I had downloaded, but this did not help.

When I replace the dir "data-integration" with the older version 4.4.0 then it seems to be OK: Spoon starts. But I have to continue to use the new one version. Very frustrating situation because the same happen also on my server machine.

Thank you very much for answers. P.

    0) I would start from opening the command line and typing somthig like
    Code:
    $>java -version
    java version "1.7.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)
    1) Spoon (CE edition) is launching using windows .bat script or unix .sh script.
For both cases you may try to start Spoon overriding output log into a file for example - executing command like:
    Code:
    $Spoon.bat > d:\temp\spoonOut.txt
any stack trace will be very helpful.

This is a link to Spoon.java main method:
    https://github.com/pentaho/pentaho-k...poon.java#L564

Since you have splash window opened -
this is the line to show splash display
    https://github.com/pentaho/pentaho-k...poon.java#L609

Spoon can fail on attempt to load some plugin related stuff here:
    https://github.com/pentaho/pentaho-k...oon.java#L615\

And stacktrace will be printed here:
    https://github.com/pentaho/pentaho-k...poon.java#L649

So this stacktrace can give an answer to your problem.

Try to start Spoon after renaming your old Kettle profile (.kettle in your user home directory).
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

try to create .kettle folder inside ur data-integration folder by setting up KETTLE_HOME in spoon.bat before you use new version of kettle. hope you will not face this prob.
