Default Spoon doesn't start on my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Hi guys having problems running spoon on our latest server. I've run chmod +x *.sh

I've followed the 'fix' on this website.... No luck.

Did you also add the -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath=/usr/lib64/xulrunner
    options as well?

What about the recommendation to add:
    GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Raleigh/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

Also, I'd recommend switching over to OarcleJDK instead of OpenJDK

Tell us with some detail what you've tried...

Hi, I've followed you instructions to the T. I've also installed Oracle JDK 7 and made it default.

    root@prod:/home/prod/pentaho_di# ./spoon.sh
    ./spoon.sh: 11: ./spoon.sh: Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla: not found
    ./spoon.sh: 12: ./spoon.sh: Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath=/usr/lib64/xulrunner: not found

    The response
    Code:
    ./spoon.sh: 11: ./spoon.sh: Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla: not found
    ./spoon.sh: 12: ./spoon.sh: Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath=/usr/lib64/xulrunner: not found
Tells me you didn't follow the instructions from the JIRA
Those are Java options, not parameters to the spoon call.

I couldn't find the eclipse.ini file on our server, so I have installed it. (apt-get install eclipse) I then added in the -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla
I have tested spoon.sh, but still getting the error.
    The other line (
    -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath=/usr/lib64/xulrunner/) I don't have a lib64 directory or xulrunner installed either.

Please, go back and re-read the Pentaho JIRAs again.

There are specific things in there that you need to try.
Installing eclipse was not one of them.

Gutlez You come across as grumpy and unhelpfull - This is a great product and no one will post on the forums if thats the sort of responce they are going to get.

I too have had problems starting spoon and the links above did not fix my problem. (only hinted at the problem)
    I got the following...

So I found that if I disabled the welcome screen on start up it loads fine.

load /home/UserName/.kettle/.spoonrc into a text editor
    Search for ShowWelcomePageOnStartup=Y
    change to ShowWelcomePageOnStartup=N

    Save changes
    retry loading spoon

    Linux Mint 17
    java version "1.6.0_31"

    Cheers

Treat the cause, not the symptom. (I chose this link because IMO it has all the right pointers)

I'm no sweet talker myself, and I firmly believe that most people sign up to this forum, because they need help in the first place, whether it comes with sugar coating or not.
    So let's agree to disagree.

BTW: This being your first post, you sure picked a strange way to say hello to the Kettle community yourself.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I'd still be just as grumpy and unpleasant.
It's an old thread, and I have good days and bad days, apparently I had hit on a string of bad days.
