Question Propagating error from child job to parent job.

    Hello Friends -

(I am maintaining someone else's PDI program, and learning as I go.)

It appears that if a child job encounters an error, and the child job does not have an error hop coming out of it, then the error does not automatically propagate to the parent job. Is that understanding correct?

If so, are there any best practices for arranging that an error in the child job will propagate to the parent job?

    Thanks.

Yes, that sounds right. In child you would have to use error hop connecting to 'Abort' step and this should propagate error to master.

    That's not what I've experienced.

    gultez is right.

    Let me re-write my comment.

By default child propagate error to parent:
If a child job has no success step
If a child has success step then state of hop is "check mark/success"

Error will not get propagate to parent in following case:
If a child has success step then state of hop is "Lock/unconditional"
In this case you will see error in logs but parent job will keep running.
In this case to stop parent job from continue running you would have to abort child job with error hop.
