According to the Tally integration capabilities book ODBC is the only way to connect to the database.
So your options are limited to using a JDBC-ODBC bridge driver (the one coming with your JRE is antiquated and might fail you) or processing a Tally Export file.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

You must create an ODBC DSN on the machine where you plan to run the integration process.
Check your newly created DSN with some other tool before you blame Kettle.
If you were successful you must create a Kettle database connection.
Use connection type "Generic database" and select ODBC Access.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

    Hi friend,

Don't mistake me, i understood somewhat what you informed, can u explain me in detail.

    1. I am running integration process in ubuntu 14.04.
    2. Tally erp is running on the windows 2007 server in other machine
    3. When testing the database connection with generic database, it was showing an error 'make sure the generic database jar file is installed'.

    Please solve my issue

    Regards,
    kapil

    Maybe you installed Java 8?
According to Oracle the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver was removed from JDK8.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

    Hi friend,

    I am using openjdk7 only.

But in kettle when testing the generic database for odbc access it was showing the error as "Driver class 'sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver' could not be found, make sure the 'Generic database' driver (jar file) is installed. sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver"

Do i want to update any server information in 'odbc.ini' in ubuntu or what ?

Also tally odbc present in windows only in some other machine but can connect tally in my machine in windows using ip address

    Regards,
    kapil

Though I don't understand everything you say, you most certainly must define a datasource before you can use the bridge driver.

I tried in database connection to connect as Type :'Generic database', Dsn : 'TallyODBC_9000' and i given username and password. Then when i was doing test using ODBC Access it was showing error as '/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/bin/java: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre/lib/amd64/libJdbcOdbc.so: undefined symbol: SQLAllocEnv'.

I think you don't have a Kettle problem - yet.
Looks like your system is misconfigured.
    Find out using command ldd.
Or start investigating why your system uses Oracle JDK while you claim to be using OpenJDK.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Thanks friend i corrected the error and openjdk 7 is present right now.

But still i can't solve the problem to how to get successful connection with tally odbc in spoon in ubuntu 14.04. I know hostname, username and password of tally but still giving problem to me.

There is a odbc.ini and odbcinst.ini is present in ubuntu, i given the tally connection details with it but still not giving successful connection.

Can u give me any example to how to create database connection with tally(present in windows 7) in pentaho integration(present in ubuntu 14.04).

It still isn't a Kettle problem.
Try to establish an ODBC connection from a different Windows machine first, so we know what we can build on.

I don't know anything about Tally DB.

If you have problems connecting with Tally DB, wouldn't it be wiser to ask Tally Solutions Support instead of posting in the Kettle forum?

    Just asking.
