Default Brand new to AS/400 and Pentaho, can someone point me in the right direction?

    Hello everyone,
These tools look amazing, and I can't wait to get started using them. I just started with a new company and want to show them some great things, though I have never used AS/400 before, is there any sort of tutorial or step-by-step I can follow on how to connect to an AS/400 and pull some data?

    Thanks a ton!

For a quick starter, I recommend to try to create a report against the standard sample data - this way you see how it works without too many moving parts. There is some documentation in our infocentre: http://infocenter.pentaho.com/help/nav/4_1

Once done, go grab the AS/400 toolbox JDBC drivers ( http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/toolbox/ ) and then treat your AS/400 like any other DB2 database server. To use the driver, you have to copy the driver's JAR into the lib directory of the report-designer, kettle and the bi-server.

We have specific support for the AS/400 drivers in our GUIs, so when creating a database connection, just select the AS/400 database type, enter host and database name (that is the name of your AS/400 library with the data-tables) and you are ready to fire SQL against it.
