Is this a subtle hint at the documentation being wrong?

Open the sample from the Example section of the documentation I referenced.
Reduce the number of rows generated in the calling transformation.
Add TEST with value MAGIC to the Parameters tab of the transformation settings.
Then add the line "Alert(getVariable("TEST", "?TEST?"));" to the JavaScript step of the mapping.
If you run the sample, you will get the default string.
Now open the settings of the mapping step and add the parameter to the Parameters tab there.
If you run the sample now, you will get the current value of that parameter.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
