Thread: couldn't convert string where string looks fine

Default couldn't convert string where string looks fine

    I'm on 6.0.0.-353 on Windows 8.1
    JRE 1.8.0._65

Doing a 2-step load, CSV input then Insert/Update
    After 21k rows it goes

    submitted_date String : couldn't convert string [2014-03-09 02:40:50] to a date using format [yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss] on offset location 19

Now, I have bee staring at this for a few minutes, but it still does no make sense.

This has the previous row and the bad row:

    Code:
    2014-03-09 01:19:15
    2014-03-09 02:40:50
    yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss
    Any ideas?

You are trying to interpret 2014-03-09 02:40:50 as Central Standard Time (North America) if I read your profile right.
Due to daylight savings time this is not a valid time.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Pretty strange. This is coming from a server, which I don't know if it is time zone aware or what time zone it is in. Is there a way to turn off the time zone check?

    Thanks

I added a data validator, which unfortunately throws an exception with this. Should it not redirect to the error output instead of throwing exception?

There's not much sense in pushing CSV files around containing local time values with no timezone information attached to the value or the file.
I would expect UTC time values and treat them accordingly. Just reformat the String by appending 'Z' before you convert it to Date.
Sure thing is someone will get back to you if it's a mistake. Maybe you learn the timezone that way, too.

As Data-Validator is concerned, it works as I would expect it.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
