Default Text File Input gets conversion error for number field on Kettle 5.4/6.0

    Hi all,
on behalf of a server migration, we are currently migrating existing Kettle Jobs/Transformations to Version 5.4 from older versions (4.2, 4.1 back to 3.2).

Now I'm getting this error for a text file input step, that is already running for years:

    2016/04/08 11:07:48 - Text file input.0 - Couldn't parse field [Number(9)] with value [0 ], format [] on data row [1].
    2016/04/08 11:07:48 - Text file input.0 -
    2016/04/08 11:07:48 - Text file input.0 - Unexpected conversion error while converting value [ART_AVAILABLE_DATE String(9)] to a Number
    2016/04/08 11:07:48 - Text file input.0 -
    2016/04/08 11:07:48 - Text file input.0 - ART_AVAILABLE_DATE String(9) : couldn't convert String to number
    2016/04/08 11:07:48 - Text file input.0 -
    2016/04/08 11:07:48 - Text file input.0 - ART_AVAILABLE_DATE String(9) : couldn't convert String to number : non-numeric character found at position 2 for value [0 ]

The input file contains 0 plus spaces in the number field.

I tested the step under Version 4.1, 4.2 and 4.4 where it works. Under Version 5.4 and 6.0 it doesn't work anymore.

Now my questions are, what is the cause of this changed behavior? Is this changed behavior intentional, i.e. has there been some sort of correction for the processing of number fields compared to the older versions? In other words, is it no longer allowed to have spaces in number fields? And last but not least, what do I have to do to solve this issue?

    TIA.

Don't know about the new versions, but I would enable trimming for a Number field that knowingly comes with trailing spaces, anyway.
You'll sleep much better without relying on side effects.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Thank you very much marabu, trimming does indeed solve the problem!
