    Default Multi-column report

    I'm trying to create a report with multiple columns, much like this example;

I can't seem to find any information anywhere on how to do this.

I doubt there is an "automatic way" to do that.

I'm really disappointed to find such basic functionality missing from Pentaho. We're not yet commited to Pentaho and are going to have to seriously consider ditching our efforts to impliment Pentaho and start using a different technology.

There is no automatic way to do it. You could make a SQL query which would return the values already in two columns, or you could use subreports to achieve something like this.

Assuming that you are getting your data from your DB in a format like:

    Category Product Price
    Category1 Chai $18.00
    Category1 Chang $19.00
    Category1 Sasquatch Ale $14.00
    Category1 Steeleye Stout $18.00
    Category1 Cote de Blaye $263.50
    Category1 Chartreuse verte $18.00

Then you should be able to do a group on Category, giving you the headers that you are looking for, and then do a row of "Product" "Price" and the next record selector. I recall (a few years since I've really looked at Report Builder) that there was an example in the samples that ship with Report Builder (or the BIServer)

This is covered in one of the Report Builder books that you can find on PacktPub.

Ok, so there's no way to do multi-column reports in Pentaho. Really poor.
Is there a third party reporting tool that I can use that will integrate with Pentaho or do I need to ditch Pentaho alltogether?

    Please re-read my response.
I indicated that this is possible, but that I don't remember how to do it.
From what I recall, there's actually an example in your install directory.
