Default Weka Package Manager not working?

Is the Weka Package Manager down? I have used it successfully in the past. but today I have tried to install several packages (on both a PC and a Mac), and get one of these errors for each:

    va.net.SocketTimeoutException: connect timed out
    at java.net.DualStackPlainSocketImpl.waitForConnect(Native Method)
    at java.net.DualStackPlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Unknown Source)
    at java.net.AbstractPlainSocketImpl.doConnect(Unknown Source)
at java.net.AbstractPlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(U......etc for many more lines)

    or...

java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file
    at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open(Native Method)
    at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(ZipFile.java:219)
    at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(ZipFile.java:149)
    at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(ZipFile.java:163)
    at weka.core.packageManagement.DefaultPackageManager.getPackageArchiveInfo(DefaultPackageManager.java:354) (with more lines)

The zip file that it downloads is 0 bytes in size. This is the case with any package.

Has anyone run into this, and found a solution?

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, the direct download URLs that Weka has been using (for core Weka and package downloads) for the last decade or so have started to generate redirects. So SourceForge have changed how these are handled. This started happening about a month ago. Sometimes it will work OK. They may be generating redirects based on load or popularity.

Anyhow, the new Weka 3.8.1 and 3.9.1 releases include code in the package manager for handling these redirects. Try updating to the latest version of Weka and see how it goes. Be aware that the new releases include a new class loading mechanism for the package manager, so there are a handful of packages that you will need to install new versions for (if you currently have them installed). More details on which packages are affected can be found at:

    Cheers,
    Mark.
