Thread: Microsoft SQL Server, Integrated authentication failed

  1. #1

Default Microsoft SQL Server, Integrated authentication failed

In Spoon (7.1), I am trying to setup a database connection to a SQL server database using the "MS SQL Server (Native)" connection type.
Steps I did to setup and configure the Microsoft JDBC Driver 6.2 for SQL Server driver.
    • copying sqljdbc_auth.dll to the data-integration\libswt\win32 and data-integration\libswt\win64
    • copying mssql-jdbc-6.2.1.jre8 to the data-integration\lib folder

When testing the connection, I get a long trace like below.

Error connecting to database [AdvantageDev] rg.pentaho.di.core.exception.KettleDatabaseException:
Error occurred while trying to connect to the database

Error connecting to database: (using class com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver)
    Integrated authentication failed. ClientConnectionId:.......................

    org.pentaho.di.core.exception.KettleDatabaseException:
Error occurred while trying to connect to the database
    ......

    Some info I can add:
    • When *not* using Integrated Security (i.e. using a SQL server username and password), I made sure I am able to connect to the database to negate any network connectivity issues.
    • This is the first time I'm connecting to SQL Server using integrated security. I cannot say this worked with previous versions and not sure if this is 7.1 only.

Appreciate any ideas/direction and/or if I need to provide more info.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure integrated security works at all from your machine?
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Using SQL Server Management studio, Visual Studio, and the SQL Server 2016 Import and Export Data (32-bit) tool, I am able to connect from my machine using integrated security.

In order to make Integrated Authentication work in my local machine, I copied the sqljdbc_auth.dll in the following path: ${JAVA_JRE_PATH}\bin

I'm using PDI 7.0 and JRE 1.8 version

    Hope this information helps.
