    Default BPEL vs. XPDL

I noticed that BPEL was mentioned in the GA news release. Will BPEL be the standard for pentaho BPM? Will the JBOSS IDE/jBPM be used to define processes?

For internal workflow we embed the Enhydra Shark engine that uses XPDL as its process definition language.

You can use a BPEL server to orchestrate actions and workflows within the Pentaho system by making web services calls from a BPEL server to Pentaho e.g. http://pentahoserver:8080/pentaho/Se...query1.xaction

We will be improving our workflow support in future release to include user and role-based task assignements as part of workflows. XPDL supports this but BPEL does not. BPEL is oriented towards process orchestration.

When we selected a workflow engine jBPM was not part of the JBoss stack and Shark was a more suitable choice for us.

Thanks James. I went to the JBoss event in San Francisco yesterday. It looks like they are really moving along with jBPM. The Jboss 1.5 IDE has a visual process designer.
