Default Can anyone confirm GTK SWT weirdness

This may be a personal problem. But, please reply if you can or can't reproduce this with a similar setup.

First, I only get these problems after I have already run spoon once per new system login. -- That's the weird part. The first run is fine, then subsequently I get SWT/GTK display problems.

    Run spoon.sh -- everything's fine
Run spoon.sh -- now look for these probs...
    Some example display problems.

<ul>[*] The initial repository selection dialog is rather huge.
[*] Add Base step types -> Input -> Text file input to the canvas. Edit that step by double-click. Select "Content". The entry boxes for "Number of header lines" is so small I can't see the number in it.
    [/list]

Again, this only happens if I run spoon more than once within a session. I can logout/login of gnome and start spoon and everything is fine. But only once.

This could be a personal problem, or a GTK or SWT issue. Just thought I would try here first.

A lot of weird stuff can happen on GTK of which I thought I fixed most, but I guess not all...
It&#39;s probably an image, a color or a font that doesnt get disposed off properly.
As on Linux all fonts are system fonts, it should be fairly easy to track down.

I need linux on my laptop for a conference in a month or so, so I guess I&#39;ll try to reproduce this problem in a couple of weeks or so.

Thanks for the feedback, I&#39;m sure we&#39;ll find a solution...

I saw "The initial repository selection dialog is rather huge" also on Windows clients, but canÂÂ't figure out a systematic, yet.

Well, all Kettle windows remember their size and position. You can just resize it I guess.

Thanks. The collapsed text entry boxes is the real pain -- because I can&#39;t see what data is in the boxes. I can get around the window sizes. Thanks for your help.

P.S. I&#39;ll try to carve out some time to start learning the spoon code this week. If I find a solution, I&#39;ll post it here. Thanks.

Well, I&#39;m on top off it actually. Finally got a GUI to run on my L33T laptop.
Have to say that everything looks really fine (KDE 3.5.1 although it runs GTK).
Although I&#39;m running bleeding edge SuSE10.1 beta 8 at the moment so that might help, who knows?
The only thing that is wrong with it is the data entry in data grids, but only for normal text fields, combo&#39;s are fine.
I think I found a solution, probably a coding error that only shows on Linux.

Thanks for helping out here, I need this to work for a Linux day presentation in Germany early May.

    ;-)

    Cheers,
    Matt

    I created Tracker: Bug - [# 1940] for this. I attached a workaround patch and before/after screenshot.
    Thanks, Ben

    Hey Ben,

    Thanks a lot man!
As you can see, more often then not, these "SWT issues" on Linux are programming errors somehow.
Unfortunately we have been making serious modifications to the TFInput step, so I guess this one slipped the verification process somehow.

    Cheers,
    Matt
