    Default ip address of server and password handling

    (Posted by Anonymous, set the bl*dy message type to Plain again)

    Hi
    I have an xml generated out of Kettle pan transformation that works fine in test with testdb connection

    My question would be how to pass the ipaddress, user name and password for the final xml that gets exceuted in production for which the parameters will be different? is it from one xml to another ? also do i have move /install pan for exceution of this xml?

    <connection>
    <name>my connection name</name>
    <server>123.456.7.8</server>
    <type>ORACLE</type>
    <access>Native</access>
    <database>SAMPLEDB</database>
    <port>1521</port>
    <username>admin</username>
    <password>Encrypted 2be98afc86aa7f2e4cb1ba671cc9dbcdb</password>
    <servername></servername>
    <data_tablespace></data_tablespace>
    <index_tablespace></index_tablespace>
    <attributes>
    <attribute><code>CUSTOM_DRIVER_CLASS</code>
    <attribute></attribute></attribute>
    <attribute><code>CUSTOM_URL</code><attribute></attribute></attribute>
    <attribute><code>SAPClient</code><attribute></attribute></attribute>
    <attribute><code>SAPLanguage</code><attribute></attribute></attribute>
    <attribute><code>SAPSystemNumber</code><attribute></attribute></attribute>
    </attributes>
    </connection>

    Thanks,
    sam

    Hi Sam,

    Using XML you need to change the connection parameters to point to the production server.
    I suggest storing the files in a version management system to keep track of the changes.

    Using 2 repositories, one for test, one for production would make your life easier I suspect.

    All the best,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,
    thank you..!
    i have created two different xmls for prod and test vesrions, and again am having the questions on deployment process.

    Is it possible to deploy the final xml as bundles with jar ?
    if am not allowed to install spoon in the prod env( a diff location and machine altogether )where i want this transfomation to be run --> Is it possibe to deploy and run the transfomation through a java program or shell script in a location where there is no spoon.bat installed

    Thanks,
    sam

    Sam,

    A Kettle transformation doesn't need to be "deployed". You've probably been brainwashed by tools like Oracle Warehouse Builder or some other code generator. The XML of a Kettle transformation is the transformation.

    Sure, bundle the XML files together in a zip file if you like. The "script" to move to production is a simple copy of the XML files or a mail to the operators.

    I hope this clarifies this issue for you.

    All the best,

    Matt
