Default ERROR : java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 31, Size: 22

Attachment: transform.gif While trying to update my fact tables I got this here weird error.
ERROR : java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 31, Size: 22
while using a table look up on kettle 2.2.2 I'm going to try the kettle 2.3 jar to see if that might help things. I'll report back once I find out the results.

If in the mean time someone could possible suggest what problem I might have caused. That would be great.

Thanks,

Nic,

See if you're sending 2 or more streams to the same step and then check if the 2 streams contain the same fields in the same order.

well they was only two that were out of order. fixed that and we'll see, next time I'll be sure to double or triple check the order.

which brings another question instead of just having two streams would it be better/easier to just brake it up into 2 transactions?

also I tried the kettle 2.3, which appeared to run faster but still the same.

Matt probably hit the nail on head since it turned out I had two out of order.

Thanks for the help matt as well as for the awesomely quick response.

UPDATE:
after making sure they were the same name and same order after it failed agian. Though it did get through more of it though.

I just went ahead and broke it up into two different transactions.

I hope that will wield better results.

Nic

BTW: I think once I figure out all the lil quarks in kettle and not try to do too much in one transaction I'll have even more apperication for it.

uhmm...
after braking them up into two transactions.

I'm still getting the same error, but it looks a bit differently now.
java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 22, Size: 22.
it's puking on a step where it looks up a FK but it's not the same spot.

Any other suggestions?

currently isn't one stream for one db so I'm running two different transactions now not two streams into one step.

Thanks,

Well, rows with varying numbers of fields are not allowed either ;-) I suggest doing a preview right before the failing step.
Or send me a piece of XML, I'll look at it tomorrow. For the rest of the night, I'm gone though.

Cheers,

Matt

uhmm I do a preview of 100 rows and things work out fine if I goto far beyond that then it heaps and disappears. I'll see what I might be able to figure out with the info I can find.

If I still can't figure it out by this evening I'll toss up the lastest version for you.

Thanks agian for the help

as much as I hate to revisit this thread. I'm getting that indexoutofbouns exception now with one of my transactions after about 159368 lines. the funny thing is that it worked for just a "week" time frame now that I'm trying to do it over a year time frame it's tossing that. None of my other transactions had a problem, the ones use the populate the dimensions as well as the other stores info. I'm currently trying the lastest build to see if that might cause a problem.

Will report back.

after getting the latest kettle.jar. I still got the exception. but this time it made it through 237694 lines. So I'm going to go back and take a nother look at my transaction in spoon to hope to see the issue, I might just brake it up into two 6 month instead on just 1 for the year.

Hi,

did you find a solution to this problem? I've got the same Problem and just can't fix it. Currently I'm using Kettle 2.2.2 but I also tried Kettle 2.3.0 but this Version didn't even run.

I tried to fix this error, cause this parts have been modified in 2.3.0 - so I changed some methods of the source in Class Value and Condition like in 2.3.0. This has been mentioned in another post. But without luck....

Error is in Step Filter Row, wich I use to Filter NULL or <= 0 Values:
2006/05/10 15:33:54 - Filter BannerNumber NULL Value.0 - ERROR : Unexpected error in 'before evaluate condition' : java.lang.RuntimeException: Unexpected error evaluation condition [(
BannerNumber IS NULL
OR BannerNumber <= [ 0]
)
] in part [Composite : get first] for row: [requesttime_timestamp= 020060110]
java.lang.RuntimeException: Unexpected error evaluation condition [ BannerNumber IS NULL
] in part [Atomic : get fieldnrs left field] for row: [requesttime_timestamp= 020060110]
java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 8, Size: 1

If there is a workaround of something I can do please let me know

greetings - Jan

What are you talking about???

Anyway, the error is most of the time caused by mixing rows with different length (or fields in another order). Needless to say this is not allowed.

Attachment: transform.gif Hi,

first of all Kettle is awesome

The Problem with 2.3.0 is as follows:
I created my transformation with 2.2.2 .
My Computer is configured for German time zone and keyboard and so on. 2.2.2 started in English (think there had not been a German translation available for this version). I build my translation completely in English. Now starting 2.3.0 it recognizes the German time zone.
At startup spoon connects to the repository but already mentions in the console, that it cant find log files and a few other things. The German GUI opens and Spoon tries to load my last Transformation, which had been in English. But I it can’t find the plugins cause there are all named English. 2.3.0 only accepts German spelled Plugins (that’s what the error message sounds like). So far… I was not able to load my Transformation. ….btw Log Window tells continuously a NullPointer.
I closed 2.3.0 and changed my regional settings to English. Started Spoon 2.3.0 again, and wow – it starts in English and can read my Translation. Unfortunately the logging is still not working and so I can’t check errors in the transformation.
So far …I had to give up with 2.3.0

The IndexOutOfBoundsException:
I attached a part of the transformation.
Did I something which is not allowed?
Error occurs at the NULL Value Filter or at Read PlacementData or at Rename PlacementData.
I’m not able to reproduce the error. Sometimes the transformation runs up to 20000 (which is far to less) and sometimes it stops at 3000 (same query as basis).
I’m new to Kettle, if this, what I’ve done is a bad practice please help me out

First of all, the problem with the log was fixed earlier this week. So try the latest version.
Second, if you change language, it should not have any effect on the loading of plugins. I'll look into that tomorrow.
Thirdly, the engine for the execution of a transformation did not change, although plenty of bugs were fixed in a lot of steps.

Finally, by trying to do everything in one big transformation, you're making it very hard for yourself to debug anything. :-)
Just make sure you're not mixing rows of different length or with fields in a different order, OK?

If you have anything to share with us besides a gif, feel free to file a bug report once in a while.

All the best and thanks a lot for the feedback!

OK, I found the problem with the localisation and step loading.
It's caused by Tom Quin who translated a bit too much. The keys for a step called Text File Input is TextFileInput. That key should never change, only the description and long description. I'm changing this, it should be finished in an hour or so.

Thanks again for finding this for us!

Hi,

Not sure whether we are referring to the same problem. I am still encountering the IndexOutOfBoundsException in both Kettle-2.3.0 and Kettle-2.3.1 releases. This happens with Spoon. There are about 9000 records in the soure table for Spoon to populate into a target table. I uses Oracle Sequence to auto-generate the pkid of the target table. Spoon managed to insert an undeterministic number of rows from the source to the target before throwing the error message as followed,

2006/07/06 19:51:05 - Party Master Table Input.0 - linenr 5000
2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : Unexpected error in '' : java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 16, Size: 8

2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : at java.util.ArrayList.RangeCheck(Unknown Source)
2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : at java.util.ArrayList.get(Unknown Source)
2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : at be.ibridge.kettle.core.Row.getValue(Row.java:91)
2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : at be.ibridge.kettle.core.Row.toString(Row.java:311)
2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : at java.lang.String.valueOf(Unknown Source)
2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : at java.lang.StringBuffer.append(Unknown Source)
2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : at be.ibridge.kettle.trans.step.addsequence.AddSequence.processRow(AddSequence.java:122)
2006/07/06 19:51:05 - PARTY_PKID_SEQ.0 - ERROR : at be.ibridge.kettle.trans.step.addsequence.AddSequence.run(AddSequence.java:203)

One interesting observation is that the above errors occurred for Logging Setting set to any level other than Row Level. If I set the loggin setting to RowLevel, however, Spoon will always able to insert all the 9000 records to the target. Why is it that setting the Logging Setting to Row Level could have such special effect? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Heng

Do me a favor, run the transformation in "safe mode" and see what happens.
