    Default notes in transaction

Is there a good way to use a step for notes.
Perhaps a "Execute SQL script" in conjunction with comment tags.
perhaps a added feature to put a step for just notes that doesn't get executed?

    what do others think?

    Thanks,

    Nic

What's wrong with the normal notes? Any suggestions there?

you mean notes on paper as the normal notes? or in some other document?
nothing really, it's just that while I'm testing my transactions and fixing errors and what's causing errors I sometimes don't note them else where b/c I'm working/thinking in kettle. So if figured I would see if anyone else might appreciate being able to make a note or something similiar. That way all your info is in one spot and you don't have to look for it.

and besides if I'm the only one the might benefit from this I can just try to wipe up a plug-in and use it.

    just my 2 cents.

No I mean, what's wrong with right clicking on the background and selecting "new note"?
That's what the notes are there for, no?

So, what would you like to take down extra besides that?

    Thanks,

    Matt

Well, we have a number of other feature requests lines up ranging from grouping steps together to downright drawing (doodling).

Glad you found one of Kettles greatest features ;-)

If you would have read the latest Weekly Kettle Tip, you would have seen a Note in it.
Sometimes i feel that nobody reads that stuff. Still, it's a form of documenting I guess.

Cheers & thanks for helping out. It's been a very busy day: +50 messages.

yeah I saw the note but It didn't registar with me that it was a note in kettle.

I do read the weekly tips, which spawned my question about when would 2.3 be stable b/c you made a comment in there that for using mappings it would be best to use 2.3 and not 2.2.2 due to bug issues or something like that.

    THanks,

Mappings seemed easy to do at first, but making sure they work recursively, with correct meta-data, saving and loading, in XML and the repository is not that simple actually.
I think I have it nailed now, though :-)
