Default spoon crashes

Attachment: hs_err_pid1440.log The problem is somewhat similar to the problem being pointed out in the "Kettle Spoon mysteriously closes" thread, although I got different error traces. Basically, every time I place a "Table output" item into the canvas, and then perform certain actions, such as to save or verify the current transformation, Spoon would close by itself. I don't think this problem is ocurring for all cases but somehow it always appears for the transformation I'm working on. Does anyone else run into similar situations? I've tried Kettle 2.2, 2.3 and 2.3 with the latest build and I'm running it on windows xp pro.

The following is shown on the console when Spoon is crashing:

1. An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:

2. EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x4dd5fa3c, pid=1440, tid=2144

3. Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0_06-b05 mixed mode)
4. Problematic frame:
5. C http://odbcjt32.dll+0x1fa3c[img]/

6. An error report file with more information is saved as hs_err_pid1440.log

I've attached the log file as well.

Thanks a lot,

The problem seems to happen in odbcjt32.dll, which is part of Microsoft ODBC Desktop Driver Pack.

I don't know what you're trying to do here, but it's unfortunately the Sun Java Virtual Machine that crashes. I guess it's better this than taking down your machine with a BSOD, hé? ;-)
Nothing we can do about this really, sorry.

Perhaps you can find an update for that software or check the settings in the ODBC driver?

Hope this helps,

I had a similar problem. HotSpot Virtual Machine died for me calling msjet40.dll.

I had a misspelled column name in a join clause. When I rewrote the query from scratch, it worked.

Hi , I am having a similar if not the exact same problem,
spoon closes always that i try to save a transformation using an excel worksheet or access database either as input or output.

Does any of you found a solution to this?

log file atached
but here are the first lines anyway
# An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x4de2fa3c, pid=4636, tid=5332
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0_03-b05 mixed mode, sharing)
# Problematic frame:

Hi , just updating,

I have found that the error actualy occurs when I am using a ms access (odbc) as, repository even knowing it is not recommended (and now I know why), I'll try using a database with native (jdbc) connections instead.

As a work around , I am running spoon without a repository and so far having no troubles.
