With the increasing popularity of SQLite as an embedded database within many apps (Firefox for example) and its use as a 'open-source/cross-platform' MSAccess alternative, it would be nice if Kettle offered it as one of its pre-configured connection types.

The problem up until recently was the non-existence of a JDBC wrapper (SQLite is a C implementation) but with the appearance of several such 3rd party wrappers this should no longer be a problem.

I've managed to connect to SQLite using the Generic connection option and one such wrapper http://www.zentus.com/sqlitejdbc/ (for more details see http://gobansaor.wordpress.com/2006/...tegration-etl/)
but an out-of-the-box solution would of course be preferable.

As SQLite is file based and the file to use is specified in the Generic tab's URL field, it would also be nice if the URL field could resolve a "Kettle variable" to allow for run-time flexibility in the choice of which database to open.
