Default Problem on date parsing with excel input

    Hi,

Using an excel input with dates inside, I have a pase error for empty cells.
It seems that kettle get an empty string from excel in this case. In
Value.str2dat there is only a test on null values before parsing. It is
possible to also treat especially an empty string.

I don't know what's the best behaviour in this case : does kettle have to
raise an exception when parsing an empty string into a date or does kettle
have to return a null date.

In the case of the excel input step I think it would be better not to raise
an exception in this case as we get an empty string when there is no value
    in excel.

In the other cases, do you think we have to modify Value.str2dat or do we
    just modify ExcelInput classes

    Regards

    Seb

Default RE: Problem on date parsing with excel input

    Hi Sebastien,

From the start I wanted to be null and "" be the same, but time and time
again we find places where this is not yet the case.
Perhaps we should just consider these a bug and just implement the fixes?
Please file a bug report for it if you're going to fix Value.str2dat() so
that people can find the reference afterwards.

    All the best,

    Matt
