Thread: Layout changes - ExpandBar

    Default Layout changes - ExpandBar

    Dear Kettle developer,

Let me know what you think of the Spoon layout change I did in this
    screenshot:

It's basically the same code reworked to use an ExpandBar in stead of a
    Tree.
The behavior seems to work best if you close the other ExpandItems when you
    open a new one.
Drag and drop works as before.
The bar only appears in Transformations and Jobs.

    All the best,

    Matt

Can you put it on the left, under the other one? Otherwise it reduces
our total screen real-estate for the actual steps.

The problem is that I have 70+ steps to display on my system (including a
number of plugins) and for this reason alone I think we need to use a bit
    more real-estate anyway.
That being said, it is perfectly possible.

It's a good idea, but I still think that we're going to overload the left
side of the screen in the future to the point of becoming unusable.
IMHO I already think the current tree is a problem for a lot of noobs.

    Nice view,
Can you put it in the left and allow the possibility to expand it (in order
to fit all the left tab).

    OK, how about this:

    Core objects:

    One item expanded:

Perhaps it's better to make the icons smaller again, but I kinda like the
    current layout.

    More comments?

Cool, as next features I would like to have a favorites tab in the
expandbar that gets filled automatically on use... and a pretty blue
or broken-white gradient background for spoon main window with maybe a
watermark of "Pentaho Data Integration" or so ;-)
