    Default 3.0 migration status

    Dear Kettle developer,

Except for around 30 steps, the complete Kettle codebase has been ported to
    the new 3.0 API.
This includes, Spoon, Carte, Kitchen, Pan, etc.

    This has the following consequences:
    1) I'm going to rename top level source folder "src" directory to "KEEP_OUT"
to indicate that you should commit all changes to the new codebase.
    2) I'm going to rename top level source folder "experimental" to "src" to
indicate you should now commit over here
    3) I'm going to rename top level source folder "test" to "OLD_TEST" to
indicate that this stuff applies to the old codebase
    4) I'm going to rename top level source folder "experimental_test" to "test"
to indicate this is the place where the test-code should go
    5) The use of Row and Value classes should be avoided at all cost. They
have been ported to the org.pentaho.di.compatibility package ONLY to provide
compatibility for the JavaScript, nothing else.
    6) build.xml will be changed to split up the jar file packaging in the
coming weeks. However, this weekend I'll re-package to the new classes. The
new kettle.jar file will be called kettle3.jar to avoid confusion.

Again, please consider the old be.ibridge.kettle code dead from this point
on. I'll go over the changes that where made the last couple of days to the
"src" folder and I'll port these, please don't make my life harder in this
    respect.

    All the best,

    Matt

    Great work Matt.

Any idea when it will have a complete set of steps? Will you be
rewriting the code for the dummy plugin, or whatever it is called?

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

Pentaho considers 3.0 completion a priority. In the next week or so I hope
to be able to post a milestone schedule for GA.
We will have a few extra developers joining in on the development effort
tomorrow so I'm guessing these steps should appear in the coming weeks.

You can grab the plugin right here:
    http://s3.amazonaws.com/kettle/DummyPlugin3.zip

    All the best,

    Matt
