Q5. What kinds of reports (data lineage, impact analysis etc.) are available on metadata?

Q5. Does the system support background processing? Is this OS dependent or does the tool have an inherent architecture for this?

Q5. Is there an upper limit on the number of concurrent users the system can service? What is the benchmark you have achieved in this?

Q1. Does the Product have an open architecture for easy integration with other tools?
Depends on the eye of the beholder. Several companies integrated it with something else, it's LGPL... you have the source code.

    Q2.What hardware platforms are supported?
    Anything that runs Java 1.5

Q3. What are the hardware requirements? What is the minimum configuration required?
As small as it will run. For GUI development probably 1Gb memory to make it run comfortably.

Q4. What 3rd party BI analytical tools are supported? Can the tool export metadata to popular BI tool?
Not applicable for the BI tools. No meta-data export for the moment (17Jul2007) to other tools.

Q5. What kinds of reports (data lineage, impact analysis etc.) are available on metadata?
No explicit reports, you can do data lineage inside of spoon for transformations.

Q5. Does the system support background processing? Is this OS dependent or does the tool have an inherent architecture for this?
No, no built in scheduler. There are command line utilities to run stuff which can be run from crontab, ...

Q5. Is there an upper limit on the number of concurrent users the system can service? What is the benchmark you have achieved in this?
As much as the server allows.

Q6. Can the product optimize queries, when required? Please elaborate on this.(Ex: Automated or does it require human intervention?)
Kettle is not for stupid people, it will execute the queries you ask it to.

Q7. How does it process very large files?
one by one, line per line, and pretty fast. Supports fixed file format, CSV files. No upper limit on size.

Q8. Does it support running OS commands? If yes how?
Sure, job entry Shell... which in v3.0 should behave better than in 2.5.
