Thread: [2.5.0] File Exist job step

  1. #1

Default [2.5.0] File Exist job step

    Does the File Exist step:

    1) Understand commons-VFS paths
    2) work with job variables that are set in Transformations run before it reaches that step

I added the step to my jobflow, with pass and fail routes to go in different directions. But, it is always failing even with known, good files (at least, VFS files).

The job variable is known to work as it is used in other steps and is recognized as a valid VFS path for Text File Input steps.

    thanks,

    1) Looking at the code I'd say yes
    2) Not if the variables are set in the same transformation.

Tests are indicating it does not understand commons VFS paths. Attached is an example.

I tested the path with regular javacode (a simple file://c:/test.txt) and although javacode worked fine, the File Exist job step does not.

Possible bug if this was the intent, or enhancement otherwise.

I agree that in SVN there is code there for VFS, but unfortunately I just double-checked and a recently downloaded Kettle 2.5.0 jar (distributed on May 4, 2007) does not have this functionality.

Is there a roadmap for 2.5.1 with this and other minor updates/patches?

The changes in the 2.5.1 are here: http://kettle.pentaho.org/svn/Kettle..._IMPORTANT.txt

But that change wasn't backported then.

Are there any options to accelerate this change to a 'production' released jar?

3.0 will be a while before it stabilizes, and I would like to have this functionality related to VFS in the File Exist step to be consistent with the rest of the VFS-support in the 2.5.x series.
