Default Unable to populate star schema with spoon

I have a normalized model that I'm attempting to transform into a star schema. My (possibly naive) thought was to use one large query to pull the bits of the fact table, populate the edges of the snowflake, then populate the facts. The problem I run into is that the referenced rows don't exist in the edge tables when the insert into the facts table occurs.

This leads me to two questions.
    1) is there a way to force sequential writes?
    2) is there a more canonical way to accomplish this?

(Attached is a screenshot of my transform)

    1)
    - using separate transformations
    - using a unique connection in a transformation.
    - using blocking step passing all rows

    2)
    - see 1)

    Thanks Sven,

I tried the unique connection approach and it worked.

For my future reference, how do you create a blocking step that passes all rows? The documentation and my observed behavior show that it only passes one row. I can't find any options that will let me do otherwise.

For the blocking step it's 3.0 functionality (the passing of all rows), my bad.

    Regards,
    Sven
