Default OT: Date vs Month dimension

    Hi

I have a date dimension with the granularity of one day, which is used as a conformed dimension by most of my fact tables.

Now I need a date dimension with the granularity of one month. How is this usually handled? Should I create a view on my exiasting date dimension? Or is it better to create a physical month dimension?

    Thanks,
    Tobias

Normally physical... you will have different surrogate ids.

Usually I don't bother but simply take the first day of the month in the Date dimension.
(or end of month if that's more appropriate)

Too late, I already constructed a month dimension. On the positive side, while doing so, I found two minor bugs in my date dimension :-)
