Thumbs up PDI 3.0 : Second milestone available

    Dear Kettle fans,

After a rather long period of bug-squashing and other frantic coding activities, we are happy to give you Kettle's second milestone of version 3.0.0. (77MB zip file)

    What has changed since M1?
    • New icons!! This is the first release to include a new set of icons and as such a fresh new look.
    • A new Mondrian Input step to read from Pentaho Analyses using MDX.
    • A new Regular Expression evaluation step
    • Access Input (don't ask!)
    • Fixed / improved repository support
    • Improved database dialect handling (SQL Server .. problem and forcing identifiers to lower/uppercase)
    • Vast improvements to the clustering/partitioning engine (dynamic partitioning, etc)
    • A "Explore DB" button for quick access to your databases
    • A complete set of internal changes with respect to the "look & feel" of Spoon
    • A series of improvements to the Lazy Conversion algorithms
    • The remaining steps that where missing in M1 got ported
    • Of-course a host of bugs got fixed as well
With this 3.0.0M2 release we're setting another big step towards more stability and maybe a GA release in a few months. However, please refrain from using this version in production situations!

    Enjoy it!

    Default Version Tag?

For those of us who hang on SVN, is there a version number or tag in the repo that corresponds to the M2?

    I'm sorry Kedar,

Doing that would lead me too far from my path.
Why don't you just check out the source code and build yourself?
That's as easy as running ant.

    All the best,

    Matt

    Hi,

I would like to know when/where is the source code of second milestone.
I also would like to know how to create and add plugins into Kettle 3.0.0-M2. There is some documentation about plugins (for developers) ? I did not find it.

    Regards

The latest source code is in subversion (see the FAQ).
Plugin documentation is in the wiki.

We are at the moment extending the annotations route so that it becomes easier to deploy plugins.

    Here is a blurb.

    On annotated step plugin development:

Default Kettle 3.0 Pentaho & Dynamic inputs

    Thanx,Matt..

Still,I request your help in 2 ways.

1.To run Pentaho Kettle 3.0 on my windows machine.
2.Suggest me some Pentaho BI tool, which allows dynamic parameters/query/variables.

    in Detail,

I am trying to use kettle 3.0.I have downloaded that. But I am getting some errors.Sven has suggested me some ways. But anyhow Kettle is not running on any machines.(i tried other machines around,All windows.).I think Problem is in download.I tried it twice or thrice..but I get errors lik e,"Main Class not found.Programm will exit."

    Plz refer thread,
    http://forums.pentaho.org/showthread...ighlight=error

Can I get the software in Digital Media like CD or something...?Indeed I dont knw how to build the source code of Pentaho.I have 2 IDEs N JDK 1.5 installed.

How Can I do that with

    1 ) IBM WID,with Java 1.4 ?
    2 ) Net Beans ,Java 1.5?
    3 ) Java 1.5 Console?

We are in need of some Freely availble ETL-BI tool which can be used in our project, for our all the business line.We have 18-20 usecasaes/Modules where we have to use some BI.As of now,we are thinking to use Kettle 2.5 .

But our usage is too much intencive.Like we need Dynamic Query /variable handling.Even We want files to BLOB database handling.I feel Kettle 2.5 is lacking in this term..Dynamicity.May be Kettle 3.0 would be able to do that.

Can u suggest me any other such tool from Penatho's Lab?i.e. Pentaho Kettle 3.0 or Pentaho Reporting...

    Hi Kedar,

All of your questions have already been answered, either on the forum or in the FAQ.
As such, I must highly recommend that you take a support contract at Pentaho.
Trust me when I say that we'll take good care of you.
Again, for us developers to hold your hand and guide you would require too much of our time.

    All the best of luck,

    Matt

    Default Kettle 2.5 & 3.0

    Hi,Matt..!

I must thank your approach & support. I would like to follow your advise & approach.
But its really big & strategic decision for us. We have certain process & standards to be followed @ our place. Pentaho can definitely approach our organization & I would love to support that.

But, as of now..We need to use & evaluate the tool.We are planning to use Kettle 2.5 for our first use case.
If it meets our expectation then some thing more can be addressed/ thought.

But the problem is, we are not able to even install Kettle 3.0 .
We are using Kettle 2.5 version since last 3 months.& the open availability of tool (open source)is making it possible..

    At last,
I must say Heartful thanks to you,for giving us such versatile software..
