    Question Pan 3.0 -vs- Spoon 3.0 results of sample: arguments

    Peculiar results difference between running the Kettle sample job from the arguments directory in both Spoon and Pan.

    Same files (renamed Set_arguments_on_a_transformation.kjb and Run_transformation.ktr) run by Spoon and Pan get different results.

    Running from Spoon 3.0M2 creates arguments-test.xls.
    Running from Pan 3.0M2 does not.
    Zero errors in Debug level logs from both Pan and Spoon.

    Command line I scripted for Pan:

    KETTLE_BASEDIR=/usr/local/kettle
    $KETTLE_BASEDIR/pan.sh -file=$KETTLE_BASEDIR/samples/jobs/arguments/Set_arguments_on_a_transformation.kjb -level=Debug -logfile=argtest.out

    Have attached both Debug level logfiles. (argtest.txt is from Pan, originally named argtest.out)

    Have also attached both the .ktr and the .kjb.

    Any clues why the different behavior? (Yes, I know 3.0M2 is not GA and that I'm prone to ID-10T errors myself.)

    Thanks for any help,

    Hi Frethog,

    Please note that you have to use Kitchen to execute jobs, NOT pan.
    That being said, in running your sample, I did note a few obscure things in the logging engine. (didn't use VFS yet)

    Anyway, try this:

    Code:
     KETTLE_BASEDIR=/usr/local/kettle
    $KETTLE_BASEDIR/pan.sh -file=$KETTLE_BASEDIR/samples/jobs/arguments/Run_transformation.ktr -level=Debug -logfile=argtest.out
    ArgAlpha ArgBeta ArgThree
    HTH,

    Default Definitely helped!

    Thanks Matt!

    Yes, it works as designed, no quirks.

    Both your demonstration of arguments to a pan-->transformation, and (of course) using Kitchen the way it was intended with the job- got the needed results.

    Yes, I'd even read-the-fine-manuals for both Kitchen and Pan. It was clear in the manuals, but I'd forgotten the correlation Pan-->Tranform, Kitchen-->Job.

    Apologies.

    Apologies.
    None needed. I'm sure in a future version we'll eliminate the difference between the Pan and Kitchen.
